The Hakuma House - an off-grid two story-house gem - is situated on the Kalapana lava beds near the base of the Kilauea Volcano. Prepare to be blown-away! Besides being the sunniest, driest part of the island, you are surrounded by sweeping views of the volcano, the ocean, and black lava fields as far as the eye can see. Yet it’s very close to festive farmers markets, black sandy beaches, and gorgeous coastal drives. Enjoy this elemental vortex unlike any other! ALOHA!

Due to the remote and private nature of the neighborhood, it's not ideal for walking around, and residents value their privacy. We recommend having a car to fully experience all that Kalapana and the surrounding areas have to offer.

Off-Grid Living: As we are off-grid and solar-powered, we ask guests to be conservative with power after dark. Please avoid leaving lights on all night and use the washing machine during daylight hours.

Nature Presence: You may encounter harmless geckos during your stay. They are considered good omens and add to the unique experience.

Privacy Respect: Our neighborhood values privacy and is not ideal for walking around. Please respect the tranquility of the area.
